  • [Corsa B 1993-2000] Low Coolant Indicator

    I want to install a low coolant level indicator on my Corsa B, since it is very prone to coolant leaking and I must check the coolant level every week. I know the car coolant system must be fixed, but as soon as I fix the problem, something else brakes down. It was leaking when I bought it, so I changed a water hose which goes to the turbo unit. It started leaking again, this time from the water pump, so I changed the water pump. As soon as I changed the water pump, it started leaking from the heater matrix, so I changed the heater matrix. Now it is leaking again, from another small hose near the exhaust manifold, so I must take everything out and change that hose. I am pretty sure after I fix that, it will start a new leak . That why I need an indicator which will warn me when my coolant level is low.

    -Has anybody installed such an indicator on Corsa B?
    -Was there a low coolant indicator on Corsa C?
    -From which model (Corsa,Astra,Vectra) can I scrap such an indicator?

      I know astra coupe turbos used them and the vectra c does too.

      Also Sierra 4x4's and I believe cosworths too, so a trip to a scrap yard might be best, find a header bottle that has similar inlet / outlets the wiring it's self could be just made to illuminate a bulb or similar when the level drops low.

        UPDATE:

        The hose was changed, and it was ok for about 6 months. Now it developed a new leak again, or should I say an old leak. The LPR water pump died, it was installed one year ago, or 5000 miles ago.

        Are these engines prone to leaking? Maybe there is high coolant pressure that forces its way out of the coolant system. These engines often go to 100 degrees on uphil or when driven fast. Maybe the higher working temperature is causing high coolant pressure that's causing leakage?

        Did a small test. While the engine was running (at 92 degrees) I opened the coolant reservoir (where you top of the coolant level) and there was no drama, nothing happened. This should be a good indicator that the coolant pressure is ok.

          UPDATE:

          20 days ago I had another broken hose. I am going to take a picture of the hose, and post it here. Luckily I noticed the coolant leak just in time, or the engine would have been cooked. I don't know how many times I saved this engine's life by timely noticing the coolant leak.



          UPDATE2:

          Yesterday I replaced the water pump. The cheap 1 year old LPR had to come out:

          Have anybody heard about this brand?

            I think that this is the hose that goes to the turbo unit.
