Could it not be the gear linkages run dry and have no grease, causing the squeaking.Did a bit of research suspicions lay with the slave cylinder.Low gearbox oil?
Old gearbox oil?
General wear?
Is it possible the shifter needs greasing at all?.

Depends on the noise - a slight squeak when you press the clutch pedal can simply be the clutch pedal itself, a bit of bike lube on the top if it works (WD40 won't fix it for long as it's not really a lubricant). A squealing noise can be a slipping drive belt, they tend to slip a bit more as the engine revs change on gearshifts. Release bearing is always a possibility, but a 'squeak' is how people usually describe it.1972 Viva restoration thread - http://www.thecorsa.co.uk/projects-b....html#post1534

What engine is this? It's not uncommon for new belts to stretch a bit so they need re-tensioning after a few thousand miles.1972 Viva restoration thread - http://www.thecorsa.co.uk/projects-b....html#post1534
