Could it not be the gear linkages run dry and have no grease, causing the squeaking.
Did a bit of research suspicions lay with the slave cylinder.
        Low gearbox oil?
        Old gearbox oil?
        General wear?
Is it possible the shifter needs greasing at all?
A few things google told me, the low oil one seems to come up a lot

Depends on the noise - a slight squeak when you press the clutch pedal can simply be the clutch pedal itself, a bit of bike lube on the top if it works (WD40 won't fix it for long as it's not really a lubricant). A squealing noise can be a slipping drive belt, they tend to slip a bit more as the engine revs change on gearshifts. Release bearing is always a possibility, but a 'squeak' is how people usually describe it.

Or lob some talc on it as a temporary measure (actually it's a good way to check if it's the belt). Sometimes water pump bearings can make exactly the same noise.

If you Igor you generally get chased by a mob with pitchforks.

What engine is this? It's not uncommon for new belts to stretch a bit so they need re-tensioning after a few thousand miles.

Ah - then the squeak is probably just that the poor little thing is frightened.

Chuck some talc on it see what happens - & let us know.

When belts have been slipping for some time, the pullies too (especially the alternator one) can become worn, so it might pay to check them as well.

                            Regards.
