  • [Corsa B 1993-2000] corsa acceleration problem

Hello wonder if anyone can help.
I have a Corsa B x reg, been a good little car and use it as a runabout as has 80k on it.
Something has started the last couple of months. Generally car running fine and fuel consumption as normal.
But when you put your foot hard down on the accelerator say for overtaking or getting up to speed quick there is a flat spot in acceleration with no acceleration at all and the engine management light comes on. When you take your foot off the accelerator after a few secs the engine light goes off and then if you accelerate more moderately it is fine.
Had it into garage and o2 sensor showed up as a problem, had that replaced but didnt fix the problem new test still says p0130. Has been serviced regular and just had an annual service in aug.
    Any ideas?

    Cheers

      Sorry it's a 1.2 12v petrol manual.

        I assume you mean the 1.0 12v engine - x10xe

O2 fault codes can be misleading since it's a feedback system. Usually it is not the sensor, it's something throwing the exhaust gases out of parameter which the O2 sensor picks up.

It sounds like a misfire under load, which is throwing unburnt fuel onto the O2 sensor thus causing the fault code. My first check would be the plugs (they aren't always changed at services so take them out and inspect them), after that I'd check the coilpack.

There are many other possible causes of course, but work through potential problems systematically starting with the most likely. Whilst you are taking the plugs out check around the inlet for any pipes which are loose or perished.

Best to start a new thread rather than hijack someone else's.

If you know a valve is sticking then best thing is to whip the head off and check the guide and valve seat.

Taurus thanks for reply, but wasn't the plugs or coilpack though as you say such symptons can point in so many directions.
I did do a bit of extra internet research and narrowed it down as so many other models of this sort had a MAF problem even though o2 sensor was the indicated fault and took a bit of a gamble on the MAF.
Replaced with an authentic Bosch MAF (apparently the non Bosch cheaper MaFs are not reliable) and runs like a top now. Well pleased.
Hope this might help someone else.
