  • [Corsa C 2000-2006] funny problem on my girlfriends corsa

hi all, i have just joined the forum, a member on many motorbike forums but never needed help until today with my girlfriends corsa.
she has a 2006 last of the corsa c models with the 1.3 cdti engine in 64k on the clock. Bought it 2 years ago from a main dealer and it has had no problems until now.
it has develpoed a rough idle and rev either when hot or when cold. If you start it up and dont touch the throttle it will idle perfect all day if it was left and will rev through cleanly once, the problem occurs when it comes back down to idle from touching the throttle. It starts running lumpy, not massively but so you can tell and will rev all the way up but no where near as smooth. It drives okay with no loss of power that i can tell but she said it uses more fuel and the mot guy ofther week said its just passed on emmisions due to black smoke exessive. If you turn the car off and restart it, it will run smooth again on idle until the throttle is touched then its back to rough idle and revving.
ive had it on a delphi laptop and it shows no codes at all. This is why its puzzling me. The things ive tried are cleaning maf, egr and intake as best i can. I have done a leak off test last night and the resukts are as follows, at idle for around 2 min with warm engine cylinder 1 is 60mm, 2 65mm, 3 90mm and 4 is 70mm with my pots only lholding 100mm i stopped when one pot got to 90mm. Does this sound right? Also the test was done with the engine idling rough not smooth, should i do anither with a smooth idle and if that comes back any different?
i hope someone can help or jnow where to point me! I have searched through the forum for answers but not come across this exact problem. Many thanks, lee

compression is made from the combustion... Your having a misfire issue, but since it is diesel, I would say check your oil level before anything. Most diesels rely on oil pressure for injection

Hi thanks for the quck reply, the oil level is spot on and the pressure light goes out almost instantly. Might have to try a fuel filter though, erradicate any simple issues. Checked vaccum lines too and none have split or are leaking. I am going to do a leak off with engine idling smoothly in a min so will post results. Many thnks. Lee

Yeah I would do fuel first. Diesel doesnt usually have ignition issues since its all glow plug. Someone more knowledged about the Corsa diesel will probably chime in soon

Try from a cold start unplugging the EGR - ignore the code it will throw - just see how it runs.

Should the egr valve be active on idle does anyone know.? Its at 40 to 60% on tickover with a warm engine. It does become inactive sometimes thiugh so it would seem its working at least but working okay im not sure!

              Sounds like it's sticking.

Hi, right been out to it and unplugged egr, started it up exactly the same although it wouldnt rev properly and smoked so plugged egr back in and it is back to how it was so i think the egr is working. The maf sensor readings when idling normally is 27/28 gallons an hour or whatever it is measured in, when you rev it and it runs rough in idle the sensor is measuring 13/14?! Hmm...thought sensor has gone so unplugged it as well as removing the air filter for free flow but no difference. Ran exactly the same. Leak off test when idling well is around the same figures as the first test when was running rough. Number 3 cylinder does seem to be feeding back a bit more all the time but that dosent explain why it runs normally on idle before revving.

Bit stuck now as not sure where to go!

OK - it's a simple way to check the EGR and it looks like that's not the main issue. I have a suspicion it's not 100% though from the information given.

But the fuel metering doesn't sound right - at idle you should be seeing somewhere like 0.2 gallons per hour, nowhere near the readings you're recording.
