  • [Corsa B 1993-2000] MOT fail

Basically my corsa sport has been in for the dreaded MOT this week failed on a few things what i could do with some help if its a easy fix without getting a auto electrician involved

abs light not coming on, now the abs works and the relay works fuse ok and also had a new bulb in the clocks but still doesn't come on and the mot mechanic is saying it at least needs to come on and go out on start up, anyone else had this before its the light with the airbag on as-well

n/s front belt pretension-er quick fix im guessing driver seat out and a few bolts straight swap making sure the clip is in on removal and fitting

picking the car up in the morning so want to get it sorted in time for free re test or would another garage maybe pass on advisory of change the bulb

Pretensioner is an easy enough fix as you say, just replace it.
As for the ABS light, I'm not sure what that could be. Someone dodgier than myself might suggest linking the bulb to another one that does come on as it should like the EML.... but I certainly wouldn't recommend or endorse it.

good idea tbh never thought of that but then again the mechanic could have seen it flash on and off aswell for a purple note in his back pocket lol but i don't endorse bribery in anyway shape or form haha

Wouldn't have thought so. Mine flew through an MOT with one fitted.

All warning lights must wort as of January this year
If your relay is ok on the abs it will be down to a sensor
On one of the wheels or could just be crap on the sensor head

would cleaning the sensors make the light work cause iv just fitted a new abs sensor bracket on passenger side to get the speedo working going to check clocks at weekend and make sure there's power going to the bulb my friend plugged it in and was showing idle control valve so picking that up today and that will take my eml light off what should sort emissions out and fit pretensioner when it arrives hopefully in time for re test
thanks for the help anyway lads

Unlikely to be a sensor otherwise the light would be on and stay on.
I would take a guess and say your abs isn't working at all.
If it is then I'd say there is a brake in the wiring going to the lights. Get a wiring diagram and do a continuity test

whats the best test to see if its working cause the garage what did the mot say its working and the fuse is ok but just no light i would have thought if the abs dosnt work i would get some feedback through the pedal like a knocking bouncing back on my foot would a test light tell me if there is a brake in the wire up to the clocks

Yes you could use a test light.
Best test is to lock the wheels up and see if the peddle starts pushing back. If it does then it's working if not then it's not.

changed the bulb works fine the other was blown garage must have been off there head or something cause it took me 15mins to solve just nicked the fuel light bulb pretensioner was the same seat came straight out easy just swoped it over.
only problem i have now is to change the idle control valve to get it through the emissions iv got to take the vx inlet off all in one with the 5 bolts on top which 3 are totally solid and wont budge made with some kind of monkey metal phillips heads im tempted to grind the heads off and then get the remaining long threads off after iv taken the inlet off and replace them with sum decent long Allen bolts

idle control valve was fairly straight forward and it runs alot better as well no cutting out when slowing down etc.. so plugged it in again only fault i have now is passenger side wheel speed senser has been fitted wrong and the wheel has rubbed onit to show bear wire so its earthing it out when turning left or go over a slight bump so and flicking the abs light on part ordered Thursday hope it turns up tomorrow as its the last day i can get it in for re test... fingers crossed

Make sure the garage is getting the engine up to operating temp.

When i used to help with the MOTs we put a probe in the dipstick that measured oil temp and the machine wouldn't let us start the test until the oil was at a certain temp.

Worst case scenario i've heard terraclean helps a lot but it's not cheap

yer its been run till fan came on and then wen it went off they did the test is it pointless changing the cat first as there only 38 quid from euro parts and then take it from there iv got the read out
                              fast idle 1.77%
                              second idle 0.82%
                              its the co2 bit
