• [Corsa B 1993-2000] Flywheel lightening

Hi guys

As most know I have an x14xe in my corsa, I was wondering if anyone knows what the standard weight of my flywheel is and what is a safe weight to skim it too?

Thanks in advance!

Not100 percent on this so feel free to correct me if anyone knows better, but the x16xe flywheel is about 10.9kg. So presuming the 14xe is the same. I changed my flywheel on my 16 (pot type flywheel) to a nova gte (flat type) only 6kg. All I had to change was a the clutch to suit.

Ive never been a fan of skimming flywheels. I recommend spend the money and get a billet one. Or as above swap to another lighter gm one.
Take a look, Its old and rusty

Cheers mate I'll have a look into that route!

Reason i ask is there's a really good machining shop in my town and they do everything to do with engines from head porting to con rod/crank lightening, the guy down there said 30 to skim and balance mine but he needs to know a safe weight to go to first lol

That price is ok but the only benefit you really get is improved throttle response and maybe 2-3bhp gain max.
For all the trouble of removing the gearbox to do it, i'd avoid it unless the clutch needed done or similar.

Not too worried about the gearbox coming off etc as gives me a chance to tidy up and spray it plus parts of the bay. Say if the weight of the flywheel was halved you would notice a nice increase in the pickup and how fast the engine revs, overall making it quicker although it would also decelerate quicker as well.

Edit: plus my crank seal needs replacing anyway

If you make it too light i know it can ruin the drivability of the car as well and it can be really difficult to drive it smoothly. That's obviously if you take too much off it though. The bigger the gains, the worse it'll be. It's one of those mods as well if you do it and decide you don't like it, it's a bit of a pain to switch back.

Yeah I see where your coming from, nova flywheel and clutch may be a good idea. Not sure how much longer this car will be a daily anyway but more weekend blasts
