  • [Corsa C 2000-2006] Revving the engine but not redlining, different opinions ?

I am a new driver, driving a little over 1 year now. I drive a 1.2 Corsa C. My question is how often do 1.2L owners rev your engine to say about 5500 ish rpm ? People seem to have different opinions about it. Some people say revving the engine that high is bad and some say its not a problem at all given the engine is at operating temperature and my cars peak power is round about that area and max torque is at 4200 rpm. I do regularly take my car to about 5000-5500 rpm once the engine is hot at the operating temperature, usually on the motorway. I also change the oil a little too often due to being paranoid about breaking it.

I have only hit the rev limiter once which is 6500 rpm I think and never again. I just wanted to know what its like. So my question is, if my car keeps seeing a full range of revs given its hot and taken care of, would it break ? I dont understand some say 5500 rpm is bad but try climbing the M62 with full load at fifth gear, it wont do it ! fourth gear is what works and its a good amount of time my car sits at about 5500 rpm too.

My car has 80,000 miles on the clock btw. When I bought it, it had full service history so it mustve been taken care of before me.

How many of you 1.2L owners use the full revs on your car ? Have you ever had any problems ?

    Thanks.

Never had the 1.2 myself, but as with all engines as long as it's looked after revving it occasionally won't do any harm. Obviously if you screw it round everywhere it's life will be shortened, but what you've described shouldn't hurt.

I go on the motorway quite often, so basically I am screwing it about a lot...but not everywhere when I am in the city I stay at about 1000-3000.

Not a 1.2 owner, but I wouldnt hesitate to drive a well maintained car anywhere within its functional rev range. Even redline sint going to immediate detonate your engine. Driving at 5500rpm, to me, doesnt signify a problem.

So in that case I can drive my car at a high RPM for an hour or 2 and it would be fine ? obviously not that I need to rev it that much for 2 hours but I am just wondering.

Use to red line my corsa all the time when I had them as long as it's regually serviced it shouldn't be a problem

1.2 corsa c here. Regularly do it, only way to get the things moving quicker than a tumbleweed

As long as its serviced regularly with good quality oil and parts and the engine has been warmed up properly it should be fine
