    Hey,

    So my Corsa has been running a little rough for a while, lumpy idle, slight missfire at low revs and a fair bit of smoke(white/grey) from start up when left for a bit. The engine warning light came on the other day and has since gone out, I purchased a code reader from Ebay and it came back with code P0400 - EGR Flow. Now i'm guessing the first thing to do is take EGR off and give it a clean? Is this an easy job and anyone know position of EGR or anyone got a link to a guide on how to do this?

    Its really not that hard to do, if you have common sense you should be fine, if I'm right your EGR valve would be located under your throttle body? Double check with google. Your best bet is to soak it in carb cleaner for the night then getting a tooth brush and give it a good scrub that should so it, you Probaly won't even need to let it soak overnight a couple of hours might do it!

      Oh right, thanks for that. Reading some stuff online it sounded like a right pig to do, will give it a go at weekend then.

        If you can get it blanked off it would be a lot better as egr's cause more problems than they are worth, if not just jeep cleaning it every now and again, maybe every time you service it

          Once fouled up with carbon deposits, the EGR-valve will quickly get dirty again after cleaning. Blanking off the whole thing is the better solution.
          Even if cleaning/blanking off, you'll still have problems with a clogged up intake manifold and intake valves.
          Two things may happen regardless of the state of the EGR-valve: -Carbon particles may be sucked in from the intake manifold and preventing one or more intake valves to seat properly for a moment, or the build up of carbon deposits on the valve stems may cause the same thing to happen. The result is an engine that suddenly gets jerky from time to time. EGR-valves are a curse, for diesel engines in particular since the introduction of exhaust gas into the intake manifold slowly but surely clogges up the whole engine.
