  • [Corsa B 1993-2000] Exhaust blow (help)

    HI All,

1.0 12v corsa b - had for roughly two years and in that time had to get the joint between the cat and the front pipe resealed 4 times.....It lasts a month or so then brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, blows again

One of the garages suggested an engine mount could be gone, but it sails through MOT's

How do I check engine mounts and has anyone got any other ideas why this might keep reoccuring - getting fed up with it now

    cheers

    Al

It's common on the three pot engines because they are inherently liable to vibrate a lot.

It could be a combination of slightly weak mounts (but still fine to pass MOT) and if the exhaust isn't mounted quite right. Some aftermarket exhausts can have the hangers slightly out of line which pushes the whole thing forward a small amount. That can be enough to strain that joint.

Check the whole exhaust system to make sure it's mounted securely and looks to be in the right place. If the rubbers are worn replace them. If all else fails cut the front end of the pipe and put a section of flexi in there to take up the movement.
