  • [Corsa B 1993-2000] canister under drivers wing

I was wondering if any one has dealt with the following problem. So checking the pcv the bottom valve was blocked so i have unblocked it and ran the car. It gained its power again but not long after i had a power loss. So i checked again and it was blocked again with a hard carbon type substance. So i check both lines one was clear but the other was blocked with the harden carbon so traced it to the cylinder under the drivers arch (sorry dont know the name). After un blocking the line i reconnected it and ran the car again which resolved the power loss but when checking the pcv again it had been blocked again. So can the cylinder under the drivers wing which the hard carbon like substance be emptied or is it some kind of filter that has to be changed. Any help from you guys would be great as you always help me in the past with any problems

Vegas should be able to help with this when he sees it.
He had similar issues recently if i remember but not sure if / how he resolved them

It's the carbon used to store fumes from the tank. The system vents into the carbon canister and then fumes are pulled into the engine and burnt to prevent hydrocarbons being released into the atmosphere. Older cars used to vent directly to the atmosphere, modern ones use this active system. Your canister under the front wing is shot, so it needs to be replaced. That's the environmentally friendly way to do it.

The alternative is to dismantle it and remove the contents. It just means that the system won't store hydrocarbon fumes.

I haven't actually done it yet on the mrs car. She barely drives it.

I'd just block it off though, wouldn't think twice

Not worth the hassle or agro. 0 point in changing it, unless you REALLY care about the environment. If you do, get a bike or walk

A faulty carbon canister's environmental impact is about as significant as a lit cigarette contributing to global warming.
