  • [Corsa B 1993-2000] 1.4 16v sport EML (air flow meter)??

hello everyone im new to the forum and have bought myself 1996 1.4 corsa sport! when viewing the car i seen the engine management light once under the bonnet i noticed the problem straight away as a friend had a similar problem with a 1.2 which was the air flow meter. the guy i bought it of had a vx performance inlet manifold put on which had no air filter or air flow metre connected was just the throttle body.

i am a bit confused as i cant seem to find a plug to a air flow meter like the 1.2 but i have found something similar which is something to do with the air flow cant remember the exact name but as i have no airbox or hosing i have just stuck on a conefilter in the meantime. i cant find an airbox for sale anywhere at the minute.

i was wondering if anyone could help me how to fix this problem.

It doesn't use an air flow metre, it uses a MAP sensor instead, which is bolted to the bulkhead next to the coolant bottle.

First thing I'd do is removew that cone, it isn't helping and could be the issue if it's sucking warm air in..

thats the one i was looking for! it didnt have any type of filter on at all, which i thought this would be better than nothing? what is the sensor or whatever in the second picture called then?

It's better than nothing, but don't you think if you have running issues it could be down to that anyway?

Also you have a connection top left of power box with no hose on it?

I can't see a thing, pictures are pretty poor.

Stick standard air box and hoses on, the find out why there isn't a hose to top left of power box

It's been very bodged by somebody, there's even a gap between the cone and the box which isn't sealed..

is there anything in the engine bay youd like me to take a picture of which may help? thanks for your advice so far, really appreciate it.

You need to make the air system sealed, it's pointless guess work otherwise mate.

seems maybe that that could be just a vacuum port or something? most people with the vx performance box i have seen like this.

It looks to me like there may be a vacuum hose missing? I'm sure mine had more than that.

As for the filter, I used a standard airbox with K&N panel filter. Connected to the powerbox with the intake hose from a 1.6 8v Astra.
I'll try and find a picture.

Definately looks like I had more vacuum hoses. I can't remember what they all do though.

That air temp sensor should be in the intake hose too. I drilled a small hole in the Astra hose, pushed the sensor in then put some silicon around the outside.
It also looks like you've kinked the main black vacuum pipe coming out of the inlet, going to the brake servo... Not good.
Look up how to do the paperclip test (I think it's in the tutorials section on here) and see what code it comes back with.
