Basically need to change the spring on my front strut (9-3 2004) I have changed struts before (on other Cars) but on my saab the top 3 bolts (under bonnet) they just spin, when I look up from in the wheel arch there is a sort of round nut on them which is spinning as I try to undo them
I tried to do struts on my mates 93 a few weeks ago and it was exactly the same as on a corsa - the bolts go up through the strut through the turret and are held on with nuts... I downloaded a saab guide but the pictures don't show these bolts in place when strut removed.
Iirc the corsa had the bolts welded into the top plate so there are no heads on them, if they spin the welds may have gone (unlikely on all six)
Couldn't get the ball joints off on my mates so thats as far as it got
Can't hold them because of the position, they are 100% round and cutting them off was the plan but had no replacement bolts at the time and wanted to check before I start cutting
Check if the heads of the bolts from the underside don't have an allen key recess in them that's been filled in with road muck over the years. In some cases I've cut a slot into the bolt and held it with a screwdriver - some Plusgas may help as well.
No Allen key access (bolts are pointed) it is very very hard to get to them to do anything with them (one if them I couldn't even see) the spring causes a lot of hassle when trying to get to them
Just read that the round nuts should if been stuck to the top mount, so I am going to have to cut them off then my plan is to weld some bolts on from the underside up then put nuts on from the top
sounds like they should be welded and the welds have broken. cut the nuts off on top and refit new bolts and nuts, or strut tops as these usually have the captive bolts/studs
