[Non Corsa] 1.9CDTi gates Vs GM timing kits

Hi all.

Just wondering as this is due on my Vectra and have two options.

Getting a GM belt, waterpump and tensioner or a gates branded set of the same

I think at trade I'm looking at 200 for the GM kit. And 100-125 for gates kit, about 100 if via trade.

Ignoring labour which is 50 which seems decent and guy trustworthy and the cost of antifreeze.


I've heard that gates have made these kits for GM and the consensus is that it's gates or GM or nothing if going for quality.


Ny question is. Are gates kits any good or should I pay a little more and get the GM kit.


All in including labour I can have it done using gates kit for 175.

Getting a GM kit will be pushing towards 230-250.

What are your thoughts and anyone got experience with this?

What's the price from Autovaux? They're usually pretty good and the kit is excellent, if it's not OEM it will be as good as.

yup. gates supply gm, toyota, vw audi and lots of other manufacturers.

Right I heard this but wasnt sure. So trying to justify the GM price tag ...which isn't much higher if on trade. Double without trade. I may just get a gates kit on trade and get it all done for 175

Autovaux quoting 80.40 for a gates/dayco belt and 37.72 for water pump. And Ina tensioner. All made for Vauxhall they said.

What Rob says - manufacturers don't make their own parts like this, so if you buy the part branded by the folks who actually make it you get the same bits for far fewer pennies, which is 9/10 is what Autovaux sell. Just occasionally they substitute an equally good part that is even cheaper, so it's worth checking their prices before deciding.

If you can get the same kit cheaper elsewhere go for it.

Anyone know who the usual manufacturer for this is?

Get that from autovaux mate. Got all my stuff for my top end rebuild and was spot on for the price.

Old pump I pulled out had plastic fins and the one from autovaux had metal fins and generally felt more solid.
