  • [All Models] c20xe ECU Type

As most of you probably know project MOK is destined to receive a c20xe transplant before the year is out. Due to a positive change in my housing situation (move in with the missus, gain a garage to work in!) I now have enough money to assemble my stockpile of parts needed for the conversion.

I've seen a tuned 'FP' type ECU for sale which I know will work with my dizzy type c20xe but couldn't remember what ECU type I pulled from my donor car. Having just checked it it's a 'GL' type ECU (code 90 354 093) so I'm wondering; ignoring the tuned 'FP' ECU what's the difference between the various c20xe ECUs available and which one is best?

I actually have one here that I used for my xe conversion with coil pack if any use.

I'm not entirely sure how easy it is to swap between dizzy and coil pack type ECUs; just curious about the different ECUs based on the two letter designations.

Sorry mate, just re-read. Mines definitely no good.

Unless you want to change loom tps etc. A lot of codes relate to car they were in. There is also version motronic 2.5 or 2.5 to choose from

I've just checked and my GL is a Motronic 2.5 from an Astra (which is funny as the engine is from a Cavalier from all the paperwork I have with it). What's the difference between the 2.5 and 2.8 ECUs?

quite alot of differences between 2.5and 2.8

as for ecusfor 2.5 there are 3 main ones, astra mk2, cavalier/cali/astra mk3 non lambda and cavalier/cali/astra mk3 lambda.

avoid astra mk2 ones, they can throw odd codes on later engines.

you can fit a non lambda to a lambda loom.

whos chip is in the fp ecu?

It's a group N chip based on the sticker on it

the group n chips just raise the rev limit and add extra fuel all the way through the rev range, theyre not specifically tuned well.

nope. the stock chip surprisingly is mapped pretty well for a stock engine. if your fitting cams verniers and porting and pistons, then mappable aftermarket is best. chipping is a dying technology.
