  • [Corsa B 1993-2000] Knocking drivers side front wheel

As above really, i trolley jacked my car up to check my passenger side strut the other day and when lowered, the drivers side strut started to knock and rattle over pot holes and bumps, checked the strut top and bounced the car a little and there is slight movement, any ideas?

There are several things that can cause a knock, it takes hands-on inspection to check for sure what it is. You say there is slight movement, is that in the top mount?

Jacking up one side can occasionally just put enough pressure on the other side to finish off something which was just about to fail. I'd jack up the side that's knocking and check for play anywhere. It is possible for the damper itself to cause a knock if it's leaked fluid or is just worn out.

Probably the shock absorber if everything else is nice and solid.

Welding is cheap, preparing it for welding and then putting it all back together again isn't. To be frank once they start rotting you need to think carefully before starting to spend any money on them.

if its the absorber i'll get some coilies on gumtree or something to replace, i know its a good car and i wouldnt want to damn it just yet for a patch like that, luckily i know a few welders and can hopefully get some good advice on it, guna seal it off from water though until then
