  • [Corsa B 1993-2000] Car judders then engine cuts out

Started a week ago, after approx 5 minutes the car starts losing power and judders, then as it slows down the engine cuts out. About 6 months ago I had the crank sensor replaced as it had oil on it but no oil leak.
Now I know I have a slow oil leak, could it be the same problem? Last time the engine just wouldn't start.

Can I assume this is the part I need?

Not the first one - that's the sender for the fuel gauge. It's the second type you need.

Car got worse over the last few days, had to call AA out as it wouldnt start at all. It turned out to be the crank shaft sensor again so replaced under warranty. Still haven't received my other part yet lol

              Working perfect at the moment

They do that - having had it replaced you'd have expected it to be OK. There is a magnetic coil inside them that cracks, when it gets hot the crack widens and breaks the circuit, then the ECU doesn't get a signal so it turns the fuel pump relay off. The thing is that they usually just cut out rather than just losing power. No harm having a spare CTS though as they wear out slowly and you don't notice the fuel consumption going up until they just let go on you. In fact I'd fit the new one anyway. I always replace them every 50k just to keep the economy spot on.

Yeh I was thinking of replacing it anyway. You can see some residue where some coolant may have leaked in the past? Its red in colour so that's what i'm assuming it is. I've fixed the oil leak now by getting a new switch.

Could the leak have affected the crank sensor at all?

No - the oil leak from a pressure switch is nowhere near the crank sensor. The crank sensor is a very common failure on them, just unlucky that the new one you got was a dud.

Ok ta, the guy showed me where the sensor was so i'll know in the future. I thought maybe the drip may have found its way to the back of the engine block

                      Thanks for your help.
