  • [Corsa D 2006-2014] Identify part?

    Hi all,

New here, but just back from a short drive and car was making a pretty odd noise - rhythmic metal banging on metal. I had been driving for a few minutes (less than 5). Pulled over, had a look, didn't notice anything - drove on a few metres, noise had stopped. On way back (drove a couple of miles) stopped at where I had pulled over just to double check that I hadn't lost anything from the car and sure enough lying by the roadside was this:

I am clueless with cars (hence the username) - can anyone identify this? Is it even from my car, or just a coincidence?

Any help gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

PS apologies if image is huge!

Sorry i've just noticed the thread tag, Corsa D.. In which case they use screw in tow eye hooks, so it isnt that.

Thanks Dave, I suspect the straight bit may once have been curved like the other side - perhaps that's why it fell off, whatever it is!

That looks like old metal, so probably not off your car. However it is possible it was in your tyre so check them to make sure there's no damage.

Thank you - told you I was clueless - that could be very plausible, since the noise started randomly, and didn't reoccur after I stopped and moved off again. Perhaps I picked it up on the corner and it was caught in the wheel/tyre, and fell off when I stopped. Have had a look and didn't see anything obvious but I'll have another good look tomorrow morning in the daylight.

Looks like it's on a bit of kitchen roll Matthew, so that should help for scale.

Looks like one of these that has been twisted and broken, very likely if it was on the road.

Can you put it next to 3 garden peas, so I can compare size.

                      Thanks
