Does this look like it needs a change? I know brake fluid is meant to be golden, and it doesn't look particularly grubby. I was going to change the fluid as there seems to be a bit of travel in the pedal, but I was expecting the current fluid to look worse than this.
You can tell its not new, but if I was looking at it in my car, I wouldn't think that was anywhere near old/bad enough to warrant the effort of replacing it.
To improve pedal feel, I'd suggest braided lines on the front, top up with new fluid will go someway to replacing the fluid also, so its win win in that sense.
Well I've already bought the fluid and was going to change it tomorrow. My brake bleeding kit that uses pressure from the tyre doesn't have a cap big enough for this particular brake reservoir, so I'll have to be careful not to introduce any air into the system. Can't see it being too hard a job though. I'm borrowing some ramps off a mate at work this weekend so may as well make good use of them while I can.
Give all the bleed nipples a good soaking with penetrating fluid the night before. They have a habit of seizing up and when they do it can make a simple job very frustrating.
You can't really tell just by looking at fluid how long it's been there, so it's wise to replace it when you buy the car. iirc they do a separate cap for the bleeding system for that size of reservoir.
Wanted to get it done tomorrow so won't have time to get the right cap. I'll give the nipples a dousing with plusgas first thing before I do the gearbox oil, that should give then enough time. Need to locate the clutch bleed too.
