  • [Corsa B 1993-2000] problem after starting

    hello all

    i have a corsa sxi 1.2 1999 petrol

the car will start first time but will try to stall if you let the revs go below 1-2k rpm if i keep it above that will run fine, but once it has warmed up will start and run fine know problems. the car had been stood for some time before i got it i cant think what it can be.

Does it do it if you come to a sudden stop at traffic lights?

There is a coolant temperature sensor which tells the ECU when the engine is hot. The ECU defaults to a cold start mix and then leans it out when the engine is hot. The CTS may be the problem (they're cheap and easy to fit on these - they bolt into the top of the water pump housing), or it's a dirty throttle body. If the engine is bogging down on a rich mix that could be the throttle body being dirty.

Both are easy and cheap fixes - I'd clean the throttle body first.

(Assuming of course the basic service items are good - old plugs or a dirty air filter would do the same.)

              hello all

i have cleaned the air filter out & cleaned the top part of the throttle body out just the top part of the valve, should i take the throttle body off to clean it all out. if so should i be carefull of anything ???
the top part of the throttle body was very dirty but thought i would ask first.

Working on the principle of not taking anything to bits that you don't need to take to bits I'd make sure that the part of the TB you can see from the top is clean, also clean the port where the ICV (idle control valve) sits, and then see how it runs. If it's no better then consider taking the TB off completely. The gaskets or seals on them are re-usable so long as you are careful with them. Try not to let anything fall into the intake as it will get sucked into the engine next time you fire up.

Try disconnecting the Air Flow Meter, you'll get a fault code for it but ignore that for the time being. Just see if it fires from cold with the AFM disconnected.

yes it does fire with the air flow meter disconnected but dies a few seconds later

Not the AFM then. Just a thought - how old is the fuel in the car? If it's been standing for a long time old petrol can cause problems. Usually they just won't fire but it can cause other issues which are less typical.

No EML coming on or fault codes registering?

Might want to change the fuel filter as its probably running on the original one. Once they're partially clogged they can do all sorts of annoying things like cause hard starts yet run fine for a while, or run fine and then the engine bogs for a moment then runs fine again. A new filter should cost under a tenner.

it has had a new fuel filter, and there was not much fuel in it when i got it. ive filled the tank since but it was running fine and starting fine once i took it for a 30+ mile run for 2 days then i drove it 15 mile fine no problems parked up, come back to the car about 15 mins later and it would not start after like 20 mins later it started fine. so i started to drive home it keeped losing power and like 30-40 seconds then was fine did that 4 or 5 times then run fine the rest of the time home parked up now the car will not start at all now no EML or fault codes. im thinking the crack sensor as gone again before the fuel bleed valve has no full again.
