I bought a Bluetooth OBD2 reader off eBay and downloaded the Torque app (Android)

It reads and clears fault codes and can give a live data feed off the car

If you've got a laptop / netbook then go for Opcom. It is cheap and very effective. It is specifically for the Vauxhall system so it will deal with problems some generic readers miss. The functions most used are reading and clearing codes, and live data reading. The latter is very helpful when it comes to diagnosing problems as sometimes it's only live engine data that helps you spot a problem.

It will also access various security issues, eg you can program keys. It will activate settings in your ECU which your model may not have, eg on Vectras/Astras is can turn on cruise control or total closure modes.

Another helpful facility is the ability to remotely activate certain items - eg fuel pump relay or EGR. This allows you to check items individually which is helpful when faced with a problem that may have multiple causes.

You get the software and a USB lead which has a device on the end of it that plugs into your car's diagnostic port.

Just one word of caution, don't use it to play with settings. It is a powerful tool and if used incorrectly to change ECU settings can cause problems if you don't remember what you did. How many times do I hear a sad little tale of woe that begins with, "Well I had on Opcom and I just thought I'd try......!"

Hi Taurus, if you are reading this, thanks for the information and recommendation the op-com diagnostic interface, just a quick question. What version of software will I need for a Corsa B 1.0L 12V year 2000 "W" Reg and would a OBD2 works with my corsa?

Thanks in advance for reading this message.

Any current version of Opcom will work with your car. Most OBD2 diagnostic kits should work in theory, but the 12v ECU can be tempramental communicating with some - which is why I recommend Opcom for them.

OPCOM is the business. I bought mine on recommendation from Taurus.

Don't expect it to do all the work though - it gives insight but in certain instances, you still need to be able to interpretthe data to understand what is actually going on and solve a problem.

                          Taurus

I have seen a few of you posts recommending the Opcom. I need this for my daughters 2011 Corsa 1.2 SXI petrol. There are a lot on the net with plenty of cheap copies from the far east but would you recommend a particular seller? I need this to work on Windows 8.1.

                          Cheers
