  • [All Models] Paint code visual colour difference

Bit of help please people, the tailgate on my sons car is very tatty with a lot of lacquer / paint peel, someone has put stickers on it and pulled them off and that's removed paint too, it really lets the car down, now the colour code on my lads car is z140 and says it's grey metallic, I have seen a mint tailgate but it's z147 star silver 2, my question is what is the physical difference to the eye, is it like star silver 1--2-3 where there is very little or do you think it's going to be miles off, I can't compare the 2 as the tailgate in question is at the bottom of a breakers yard and I can't get his Corsa down there to do a comparison, does anyone have any idea if it will be well out or do I just risk it due to the condition it's in, any help will be greatly appreciated

If you take your code to a car paint shop to get the paint that matches if the boot you have is ok and just respray and lacquer it

Initially that was the plan but then it's all the Preparation required, then it's paint, lacquer and sundries, followed by flatting back again and polishing is all a time consuming job,

1, it's not the weather to be doing any painting in unless you have a booth / heated dust free space to work in

2, the time-effort and money it will cost outweighs the other tailgate cost and fitting and as the tailgate I am looking at is proper 100% mint so that's where the idea came from in the first place as a more cost effective solution....

if I get chance I am going to go into halfords and have a look at paint can lids for a comparison, if it's not that bad I will fetch the tailgate if it is I won't, then the search will continue....

if you look under the bonnet there are 2 I'd plates, 1 painted over to the right on the slam panel and one black on the left of the slam panel, at the very bottom of the black one there is a letter z then a space the a number mine says 140

Would never attempt a surface that size with rattle cans, especially in silver.

Et new tailgate or have it done properly
