  • [All Models] Help determining whether exhaust is modded?

My son has recently purchased 2006 1.2 SXi plus twinport Corsa.
Someone else damaged the car whilst stationary and we're currently sorting out having the damage repaired through insurance (non fault claim)
The garage has examined the car and was more concerned with the alloys (already disclosed to ins co) and the exhaust which they say is non std?
They didn't have a look underneath at the exhaust system, but, it does sound quite meaty and there are 2 chrome pipes visible popping out at rear.
I have even rang my local Vauxhall dealership and even they couldn't tell me whether the twin exhaust was an original spec?
Can anyone help? Am concerned that if it is modded, this could void his ins and as he is under 25, his ins co won't allow mods, even though they did allow him to upgrade his alloys!

Could be one of the two Irmscher twin exhausts:

In which case you should be fine as they are factory fitted extras.

Obviously a picture of the exhaust in question will help us identify it.

Thanks - Son at work today, will take some pics tomorrow and post back. Can you point me in the right direction of where you found the info about FF extras?

      Many thanks

Well Irmscher manufacture extras for Vauxhall but I don't know exactly of a place where each car model will be listed with the exact extras that were fitted. However the Irmscher goodies are fitted to the higher spec models, so it's perfectly plausible that the SXi falls within that group.

I'm assuming this is on a Corsa C and not a Corsa D? If memory serves me correctly 2006 was the crossover between models.

Whats the reg of the car? I can probably look up its build sheet to see if it had the irmscher pack ticked or not.

Either way, don't the insurance company ask for modifications AND factory fitted extras to be declared?
Dave, how the hell do you have access to that?

We were only asked about modifications? I wouldn't know whether any car I bought had FF extras? It's never been an issue before now.

I have access to many things I probably shouldn't... Let's not ask too many questions.

Have replied to you, no sign of any irmscher pack or exhaust parts on the build sheet I'm afraid. However the irmscher parts are popular as they are known to be high quality, and not to "racer" ish. If it ever came down to it with insurance you'd havea pretty strong case arguing that you didnt know it was modified. They'd likely agree with you to be honest. However they will probably only offer to replace it with a standard one, as that's what they've been insuring.

                        Thanks all
I got my DS to take some pics today - please forgive the dirt, the car is black, the exhaust poking out the back is actually chrome! I did go and make him wash the car after I got these!

Looks aftermarket to me. Not an Irmscher one. The Irmscher ones are two separate pipes coming out of the back box, not one pipe splitting into two.

That looks a lot like one of the older scorpion exhausts. Definitely not standard. The box looks to be stainless anyway.

Thanks. So, when I call the insce company to try and add this 'mod', how do I describe the exhaust? I don't think that the insce co will allow anything which increases performance, but DS can't afford a new exhaust system. Any ideas?
