  • [All Models] Best way to paint wheels

Looked around on Google but found so many different ways to do this, I want to spray them black so am I right in thinking the best way would be:

    Clean/degrease and dry
    Sand down smooth
    Primer
    Smooth down
    Paint
Smooth down then keep adding a another coat?

Also when do I lacquer them?

    Thanks.

I know I left out drying times from the list as well lol don't think I would do that as 1 process

      Sand down
      Primer
      Leave for 24 hours
      Fine sand
      Primer
      leave for 24-48hours
      Very fine sanding
4 layers of paint leaving at least 12 hours in between
Leave for at least 12 hours
      Few layers of lacquer

Patience is key with spraying, especially with rattle cans

Could I cheat and use a heatgun to reduce drying time?

Could damage paint if too hot, I did mine in my shed with a heater going

Was thinking just a light brush over with heat gun to stop damage, will maybe have a go at this on Friday all being well, been quoted 100quid to have them done black

Probably best getting done properly as I don't want spend about that much to **** it up and end up getting them to do it anyway lol

So a proper wheel alloy place with a two day turn around doing a poor job or they have better gear to speed up process?

You mean like N oven to dry the paint? Of course they have better gear, they aren't using rattle cans and fresh air to start with..

Wasn't so much the rattle cans I was querying it was the time scales of paint drying. I'm probably just going to get mine done but they need refurbishing properly, powder coated the way forward or can they need more work?

How do you manage to make threads about you

Powder coat more robust paint works fine unless you drive into kerbs.
