  • Is this legal?

Lowered my car today and put an alloy on just to see how it fit (only one I have a tyre for) and someone said isn't that illegal cos it wider than the arches, is this right? Here's a pic or two

If tyre sticks out past arches then yes it's illegal, I am struggling to see on my phone though

If the tread of the tyre is protruding out from the side profile of the arch, then yes it is illegal. That's why some people flare their arches, or run camber on their wheels. This way the tread is still within the arch.

As CorsaEdi has said, your pictures aren't particularly clear if this is the case or not. A head on photo would be better.

Ill get get a better picture tomorrow, would running stretch tyres be okay? They're 7.5j I think I was thinking about getting 175/55/15 tyres currently on 205/55/15

Yeah a bit of stretch should help, those tyres on at the moment are way too big. It's not just about how wide the wheels are, it'll be the offset of the wheels too.

I wouldn't bother with stretched tyres. Part of the next EU directive is to make them illegal.

Looks borderline tbh you could probably get away with it, your wheel looks cambered or it may just be the pic or how you are parked

                    They don't look illegal imo.

As others have said, very borderline. I think if you got a picky cop, then they'd give you a hard time over them.

That aside though, they look **** poking out like that.... Lol sorry

Could be the way I'm parked but I thought that as well don't know why though :/

Too low an offset like those wheels will make it handle poorly and will cause suspension and steering components to wear out faster.
