  • [Corsa C 2000-2006] Exhaust blow

Hi all, I have a slight blow between sections of my exhaust I was told at last car service when I got it.

I was told it just needed some paste to resolve this.

Mg questions are. Does it matter where the blow is per section as to what sealant needs to be used.

If there are any other holes or blows do they need replacement as opposed to using a paste?

What is a good product for this? Online search brought up many.

Then there's the rust to clean up, once brushed off can it be painted at all? Or needs something specific as it transports gases and heat?

    Thanks

Get it on ramps/axle stands then run the car and get someone to briefly cover the exhaust and you will hear where the 'blow' is from, if it's a hole in the exhaust try that exhaust bandage stuff works well but doesn't last forever

If it's a big hole then replace that section or weld if you are on a budget

If it's just a gap between then sections then just separate and seal with exhaust paste/gel, any from motorsave will do the job and they are cheap

Thank you. I believe it's just between two sections in middle of car, never took one off before so wouldn't know where to start yet but paste is ordered and I'll investigate the whole pipe first as you suggested. Thanks.

This is the next job to do.

It's easy to change the system mate, make sure you have plenty of wd40 lol best way is to solar the bolts in wd40 before hand and I would also go buy a few exhaust clamps (they come with bolts) they are about a quid each but they help if you sheer a bolt or if old ones are too rusty to be re used

What about a really rusty tail pipe? Can this be cleaned up as new or replace?

Depends how bad it is, it may be just as easy to buy a new one

Just crusty in places. Not gone through. Might wire brush it at a later date.

Is it the tip? Or the other side of the box?

The tip you can clean up with some metal polish but if it's past it then it will be pointless, other side just wire brush it but it will eventually rust through

For any joins (eg were front pipe joins to centre section etc) use silicone use a good amount too don't be shy, when you tighten the exhaust clamps (D clamps) it will squeeze out of the joins then just smooth around the join areas to tidy it up and help seal any other gaps.

USE gloves though (disposable) very hard to remove it from your skin.

Paste / bandages only ever fix for a short while before it cracks and breaks off. The tip of silicone was told to me by power flow in derby over 10 years ago, works every time and last till you break the system apart In the future, it with stands the heat and movement of the exhaust too.

I didn't think I would have to take this apart but makes sence to do all this and do it properly. I'll probably wait on this for now and get the bits I Dont have, silicon, gloves etc. Advise from you guys is top notch but before I go hole fixing I'm going to make sure of all the rust first as if it's gone through may be best to get new shiney.

                        Thanks again. Bookmarked for reference.

Just save a few quid a renew the lot (except cat unless it's ****ed) a full system shouldn't be more than 100quid anyway
