Hi guys! Just replaced my alternator so i jump in the car all dash lights turn on but only the airbag light goes out, i can hear the starter motor but then the engine doesnt crank and now only the airbag light comes on and flickers but i can also hear a noise coming from the closest fuse box, left it for a minute but now it's back onto all the lights apart from the airbag, I do need petrol but I'm gathering its the ecu, thanks for reading
If you changed the alternator because it wasn't charging (the usual reason!) It may just be that there is not enough power in the battery to do more than put the odd light on and cause a relay or two to click.
If you have a multi-meter/voltmeter, check the battery voltage, if not, switch on the lights - If you then need a torch to see if the lights are 'on', then the battery is flat!
Please tell me you disconnected the battery before working on the alternator.
Also - which engine/model is it?
And - have you charged the battery using a trickle charger?
hi! yeah of course i did its the z10xe 2001
tbh ive never heard of a trickle charger
but its definitely got roughly 12.4v when i checked with a multimeter.

hi! well i put the battery on the wrong way because it was flat that's why i changed it because it started smoking.
no roughly 12.4v i also tried the hazard light which became slow and a horrible noise sounding which was coming from the closest fuse box and i could only stop it when i removed the negative terminal.
12.4v doesn't mean there's any charge in the battery.
A trickle charger is what you use to charge a flat battery. A totally flat battery may not take a charge from a charger so sometimes you need to charge at under 500Ma to 'prime' the battery before it will accept a standard charge.
Bear in mind that an alternator will not charge a flat battery. The old dynamo systems would charge a flat battery to a state of full charge, but alternators only replace the charge used when starting the car to the level it was beforehand. IE - you can jump start a car with a flat battery, drive 500 miles, and find it won't restart because the battery is still flat.
I'd suggest you need to charge the battery. If it was flat before and you haven't charged it then that's why you're getting the issues you describe.
(If you haven't got a charger then buy yourself an intelligent charger - one that will prime a totally dead battery before raising the input amperage. Or get hold of a 12v 500Ma (or less) charger used for motorcycle cells or gel cells.)
