  • [Non Corsa] Astra mk4 Air Con not working

I know it's not a Corsa but thought some of you maybe able to help me.

Had my Air con On my Astra mk4 1.6 8v recharged last Monday as was empty due to fitting a new rad for it. I went to Formula 1 autocentre to have it recharged.

Filled the system with no problems. When they tested to see if it was working, all they got was warmish air coming out. They even had a good look to see what was wrong with it, they suggested it maybe a fuse or the clutch on the compressor.

Anyway got back home and I've had a look myself, I've checked the fuse inside the car they looked fine to me but I changed them anyway, still nothing.
I did notice that the clutch on my compressor wasn't moving whilst I had the car running.

Here's a list off what I've checked already.
I'm not getting 12v at the compressor terminals. I get the yellow light come on on the air con switch.

    Here's what I could found when I had a look on Op-com.
A/C Coding (Air Conditioning), A/C Detected.
A/C Information Switch (Air Conditioning), Active 12V When it's off it's in active 0v.
A/C Load Signal (Air Conditioning), Inactive.
    A/C Pressure, 1.80bar.
A/C Request (Air Conditioning), Inactive 12V.

Went back as I found a leak at the bottom of the liquid receiver, replaced it with one I had in my garage. Since going back I now have both the coolant and eml on.
Thought this had fixed it and it hasn't, so back to square one.
I've checked all fuses and there all good, checked to see if I'm getting 12v at all fuses. Only place I'm not getting 12v is the loom plug for the compressor.

    Codes coming up are,
    P1530 - (4) AC request line voltage low-present.
P1540 - Air conditioning pressure signal invalid not present.

Tried to clear codes and I'm left with P1530 - (4) AC request line voltage low-present.

    Peruse is now around 6.8bar.

Sorry for the long post. Any help would be appreciated.

So do you have a good earth and charging voltage at the compressor with it running

Has the system held the gas

And was dye used with the regas

I'm getting no power to the compressor. Will check the earth tomorrow.

System holds gas now, yes dye was uesd.

Sounds like your high pressure sensor mite be to fault,
i know its not any think gm but ive got to change the pressure sensor on my mums fabia vrs tomorrow

I've already changed the pressure sensor with a known working one.

Someone on another website sorted his aircon by giving the aircon clutch a tap with a hammer while on tickover might not work thought it was worth mentioning

Are you sure that you haven't lost the gas charge?
As Craig says, did they put ant dye in with the gas? - If they did, you need a UV torch to check for leaks - If they didn't you may not know if there is a leak.
You could try MOMENTARILY depressing the valve (under the plastic screw-on cover) and seeing if any gas escapes. (don't do this with your finger, or you might get frost bite!)
If there isn't any gas left in the system, the clutch will be inhibited from pulling in.

                Regards.

I've got gas in the system, as on opcom it's reading 6.8 bar. I'm not getting 12v to the loom plug for the compressor. I've even run a constant live to the aircon compressor and it runs without any problems.

If the clutch works when you apply an external feed, then providing that the system pulls the temperature down, you have probably got a faulty pressure switch or a broken connection.

                    Regards.
