  • [Corsa D 2006-2014] Corsa D Brake Light Issues

Hello I am wondering if anyone can help me, I own a 57 plate Vauxhall/Opal Corsa D 1.3CDTI 5 door. When I brake the top strip light on the tailgate illuminates however the brake lights in the two light clusters on either side of the rear of the car do not. I have read a number of forums with identical issues however they never seem to find a solution to the problem, either they change the bulbs and it start working or the forum abruptly ends with no resolution, so if anyone can help me work out what is wrong it would be much appreciated.
This is what I have tried so far:
I have tested and replaced the bulbs, the bulbs were fine however I still replaced to no avail
I have tested and replaced the fuses, again the fuses were fine but replaced anyway, no avail
I have taken a multi-meter to the fuse box and there is a consistent reading of 12V regardless of the brake pedal being pushed or not. I am not sure this is normal behavior but I assume it is.
I have taken a multi-meter to the light cluster contacts and no voltage could be found on the brake light connections. (All the other lights are working fine and showing a voltage at the connections)
I have removed the plug from the brake light switch, connected to the brake peddle, this cause what I presume to be a safety feature and activated the top strip brake light but nothing else. I then jumped each of the contacts to each other to see if that would do anything thus indicating a brake light switch problem but again to no avail, the top strip light remained on the whole time the plug was removed from the switch however no combination I tried caused the other brake lights to illuminate.
Sorry for the sprawling first post but I guess it is better to be thorough initially rather than leaving it open to loads of questions. And thank you in advance to anyone that can help me, I am a student so can’t really afford to take it to a specialist and I need my car back on the road as soon as possible.
    Thank you

Update, after about an hour of trying different things it suddenly decided to work, I now know why I couldn't find a fix for it anywhere, it just seems like the more bulbs you randomly move about the higher the chance it will eventually just work, I can only guess its something to do with the ECU.
    Thank you anyway.

      Welcome to the Forum.
The most likely cause of your problem is a poor electrical connection.
As it now seems to have 'healed up', but it is quite likely that it will recur at some point in the future, so I would suggest at the very least, that you make constant checks that the lights are still working.
      Regards

Just found this thread, and to be honest i have got the very same problem. And what this guy says i have done and more. But still no brake lights on the clusters. On the tailgate it is fine. Bulbs check, earth check, brake switch check, i am totally going mad now. Any further help would be most welcome. Please Please help! If anyone can.......

From what I remember it resolved itself after repeatedly changing bulbs around and turning the car on and off as well as disconnecting the battery, i think if you disconnect the battery for a day or so it resets a bunch of things which might help if it is an ECU issue, either way, it has not reoccurred on my car since. Sorry, I can't be any more help.

I've got the opposite problem to this - the side brake lights do work, but the centre 3rd brake light does not. I've replaced the whole centre unit (it's LED) and still no joy.

Is this 3rd brake light on a different circuit or what?

            Anyone got any ideas please?

            Thank you.
