  • [Corsa B 1993-2000] Automatic gear issue.

Not sure if its a Corsa B ???

We have a 1.4.Corsa design, 2009 Automatic. Ok today
my lady couldn't get the car out of Park. Having scanned the internet, I managed
to get it out of park by removing the shift lever cover and press down on the
yellow tab. This I did and then I was able to put the "Stick" into Neutral. I
did and yes we had gears.

Now what needs to be replaced so that I don't
have to do this ? I was told the brake light switch is at fault, even though the
brake lights worked. I am told this is also controls the gear release switch ? Is this
the one located on the pedal ?? Also anybody got a part number
    ??

There is a safety system that means you need to apply the brake pedal before shifting into drive, it's controlled by the brake switch. However if your brake lights are working it may not be the switch, it could be the shift mechanism itself. For the part no. it is easiest to call in at a dealership parts dept and ask them to look it up. But from what you say I'm not convinced it is the brake switch which is your problem here.

Love the HC viva ! No I have read that it could be a duff solenoid that could be at fault as like I say the brake lights are working. Thanks for the reply

Could be intermittent - which may be why the brake lights seem to work but not the gear selection. Check there isn't a bad connection.

Give the reg to the parts guy, using that they'll be able to pinpoint the model and part no. more easily.
