  • [Corsa B 1993-2000] Fuel consumption high and hesitation?

  • #2
The car has had the Thermostat removed in the past for some reason... I'm assuming this could be causing it to run rich because the engine thinks its cold and therefore is injecting more fuel to try and compensate?

Not quite - the thermostat controls the flow of coolant, if it's missing the engine will run colder for longer (though some parts will actually run too hot due to the circulation being uncontrolled - so put a new 'stat in) - so it is not the ECU thinking the engine is cold, the engine actually is cold.

The ECU gets its signal from the CTS so it knows the coolant is below specified temperature, therefore the mix will be rich.

Thanks mate so if I put a thermostat into it, then the coolant temperature sensor with see that the coolant is at the specified temperature (because it will be) and the there will be the right mix and will stop the car running rich?

Has been serviced recently so they should all be good I will go to the motor factors tomorrow to get a thermostat and hope it improves my fuel consumption. Thanks mate!
