I am looking at getting some 6x9's and an amp to run them for the new car.
Do I need the amp to be able to output a higher wattage than the speakers, or is it the other way round?
Been thinking about it and both answers have benefits/advantages, but want to check on here first
The way I've always done it, and had good results with is that you want them pretty evenly matched. But keep in mind you'll not want to run your amp at max gain. Run it at 75% to give it an easy life. So pick values accordingly. I'd never buy an amp that was bigger than my speakers with the plan to turn it fully up.
A 200w amp running at 50% will be fine for 100w speakers for example.
