Is Deodrant/Anti-perspirant needed

Bear with me here.

The spray versions of this have only been invented in the last 50 years or so, so before that did every one smell?

Or is it that before they were invented people used actual bars of soap to wash with?

If that's the case is shower gel just a marketing con and a bar of soap better?

Might sound weird to you guys but I've hardly ever used deodrant or sprays tbh. :L

I feel that the sprays make you sweat more? Might be just me and my awkward self.

Nothing's stopped me from sweating, but they do stop me from smelling.

I still sweat it does seem to stop me smelling, however is it masking a smell that shower gel is not removing effectively

I find certain anti-perspirants crap, and others good. However when I was younger I only used deodorant and never had any problems with smelling. I only switched because Lynx became too expensive. I find now if I do use just deodorant, it doesn't take long for me to get a sweat on.

Hello I too only use Linx only stuff that seems to work well, only use good stuff when I go out which a full bottle of stuff since xmas indicates I don't go out much

I have to spray every day, otherwise it makes me feel dirty and unmotivated.

I use sure and right guard usually. Keeps me dry for a full day. Smell wise, nothing special. But there's no smell of sweat.

I don't use deodorant for the smell at all, just to stop me from smelling of BO. I think sprays like Lynx etc are bloody horrible and make you smell like a 13 year old boy trying to impress some girls.

This is a wierd thread... But anyway, I dont use deodarant really, if anything I sweat more using it, which is odd. Shower/bath/wash then usually aftershave just to smell a bit nicer.
