  • Something disappointing I've found out...

...apparently freezers don't keep food fresh forever, as I'd previously assumed.

Now how on earth does this work, the food is frozen how on earth can it go off?

Anyone care to explain how this is possible

I thought it was something everybody knew, but the mother in law is the same. Mrs had a carbonara a year after it's use by date, the sauce had gone sour. If you look at the door of the freezer, it'll have pictures and numbers on there, indicating how long you should keep certain products in there. I'm sure the answer is on google, but cba finding it.

It lasts ages but still degrades. Chest freezers usually better. I don't freeze for months as dries the meat out.

Somewhere on there is a frozen level guide with a snow flake symbol. How many snow flakes is how cold your **** is. And corresponds with how long you can store - broken up into food type, red and white meat etc. Different freezers have diff levels.

I had a steak the other day when I was drunk that must have been in the freezer not wrapped up for at least a year at a guess. Didn't get ill from it but it wasn't the best steak in the world

Doesnt meat get "freezer burn" after a while, where it gets wierd marks in it and changes colour slightly??

Freezer burn is usually worse when stuff isn't wrapped properly too, so that steak must have been minging!

That's what I meant about drying out I think. Get it down you anyway though its character building.
