I'm quite saddened by this, I grew up watching his films and he was a comic genius.

Seems he finally succumbed to the depression he has battled for years

Think I'm the only person on whole of Facebook that didn't find him at all funny.

Sad news, but I won't pretend to be a lifelong fan

Some of my earliest memories of going to Cinema was around the time Mrs Doubtfire etc came out. Reminds me of my childhood. Pretty gutted today to find out it's real.

I've dealt with moderate depression years ago, it is difficult to get yourself out of that hole. What Williams had (clinical depression) was worse, so its sad that he took his life.

People love to go full retard when a celebrity dies. Paul Walker dies in a Porsche GT crash, and suddenly people were virtually hailing him as the greatest actor of his generation, like he was in the same league as Anthony Hopkins or Morgan Freeman.

Regarding Williams, I also didn't find him funny -- most of his 'funny' stuff was just a grown up acting manic. When Williams played intellectuals with empathy (Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society, Awakenings) or psychopathic/creepy characters (One Hour Photo, Insomnia), he was a very good actor, though.
