Apprenticeship no qualifications?

it'll depend on what they ask for really. If someone has qualifications that the employer is looking for, then it will be related to that job, so they will have knowledge. Can't really tell unless you know the guy who will be hiring.Originally posted by VegasWhen I hit boost me fuel runs out

Possible yes. Likely no...
Age is a more important factor but qualifications still count.

HI,
THe thing is what you want to achieve. I was service manager of an independant garage/recovery company for ten years and we did take on "trainees" I wouldn't say apprenticis as that to me involves indentures/colledge etc etc, but if your interested in a career in the motor trade I would suggest you just put yourself out there !
Start by writing a decent letter to the service manager of as many companies as you can find, hand deliver it to the receptionist, be smart (dressed) explain briefly what it is - then go away.... get the service managers name and a buisness card, then 3-4 days later phone up ask to speak to him, remind the receptionist it was you that dropped the leter off and see how it goes.
To me, enthusiasm was important, the pay will be crap to start so no major risk to them, you don't say how old you are or what youve been doing - if you want any help writing the indroduction leter pm me, be glad to help.
good luck

The problems i found when i was looking for apprenticeships is if you're over 16 they're not as keen. The government will normally subsidise the cost of putting the apprentice to college for their portfolio until their 18.
That makes it much cheaper for the garage to hire someone at 16, rather than older as they'll have 2 years of cheaper labour compared to someone older.
With the qualifications thing it's not as important as the age. But there's a lot of people wanting to be apprentice mechanics so if the garage gets a handful of applications for a position as it, they'll likely choose someone who has qualifications than someone else who's applied and doesn't. It doesn't prove how good you are or how keen you are, but it sends out the message you don't or didn't care for your education much

Most people hate their job after a while.
I don't go to work to enjoy myself. I got to work so i can get enough money to enjoy myself when i'm not working.

Then do what it takes, get the qualifications, self fund if you have to, work 12 hour days, go out and make connections.
Yes it's going to be hard but it will set you up for life and lead to something good.
So far all I see from you is; I do something but don't like it so I'm going to quit but will someone else pay for me to try my hand at something else which I will quit if I don't like it. Put it this way, I wouldn't employ you.

I've found if you enjoy something as a hobby when you start to do it as a job, you grow to hate it.
When i worked as a mechanic, all the mechanic's cars were poorly maintained because that's the last thing they wanted to do after they finished work.
It's same with me and IT. Used to love it as a hobby. Now do it as a job and it's took most of the fun out of it.

I personally wouldn't bother with an apprenticeship with a garage, go for the big ones, vauxhall etc.. Im 18 and attend college studying motorsports, and I only work three days in a garage due to part time college and I earn more then you would do in a apprenticeship, but apprenticeships look better on the cv.
Most manufacturers that do apprenticeships only care about the marks you get on there maths and English tests, every single apprenticeships I've gone for doesn't care about previous experience.
