  • European Elections

Just wanted to start a discussion regarding these as I don't really know what they're about, or what the outcome would entail, but I'd like to learn.

So, anyone know what's going on?

I've tried to work it out myself but I don't understand. The EU are unelected leaders so I don't understand why we have European elections and what these people can actually change.

There seem to be more of a protest vote to try and tell the main parties what we want in the general election, which is obviously what matters to us.

Again all the party manifesto were the same as they are for the general election (maybe small changes made but the majority of it is the same).

Anyway the party who's policies I agree with the most are the Greens, except their green policies ironically .

That's what frustrates me. We're expected to vote, but have no idea what we're voting for.

I don't understand our political system at all really. Winning seats and getting majorities is only bit I get. I don't even know how to vote. Not going to lie about it, never given a **** before but I wouldn't mind working out what's going on.

That's probably why only 30% of the population vote.

The system itself is complicated, local elections, general elections, seats, majorities, european, etc. It needs a complete overhaul tbh. However I take it as vote for the party you agree with the most no matter what election it's for and you can go wrong.

I read up a bit before voting. From what I understand (and this could all be wrong) is that we were voting for members of european parliment. They do the same as MP's in this country, but relating to eurpoean legislation. They vote yes or no on measures that affect every country within the EU.

It has been used as a protest vote here in response to how the country is being run at the moment. Many UK citizens want out of the EU and the party that seems to be hitting the right votes at the moment is UKIP.

Why do so many of "us" want to be out of the EU though? Why? Why is it bad, or good?

The UK pays a lot in and gets the least out, well was the case years ago, and some countries I think Spain was one paid barely anything in and get lots out.

Theres probably more reasons that are up to date. But that's the only vague EU complaint I've heard first hand and this was years ago.

They meddle in our affairs don't they? Isn't it thanks to the EU cars have DPFs and stuff that likes to break while saving the planet?

I don't care either way I don't think it will improve my life in anyway and that's all I really care about.

Personally for me I'd like to be out of the EU so we can get rid of all this human rights bull****, and get a control of the immigration.

I want immigration stopped simply because there is jack **** enough jobs or housing to go around. There's many other things to sort but seems to be all talk about this one issue.

And of course of your anti immigration your somehow racist, wtf.

It's an easy way for people to dismiss the argument of immigration. Exactly the same when supporters of ukip are called racists. It's a means of stigmatising anyone associating or thinking of associating with them.
