  • PQ17 an artic convoy

Just been on BBC, hopefully it's repeated or on I player.

Presented by Jeremy Clarkson, it was an excellent watch.

Should've stated what it was about.

The documentary was about the convoy taking supplies to Russia during the Second World War. Mainly focused a round the PQ17 convoy which suffered heavy losses.

Well worth it. It's a good example of why this country should have honoured its Merchant fleet much much earlier than it did.

Just watched it on iPlayer. A good watch and a healthy reminder of the disgusting conditions men had to serve in. Credit to the lot of them.

Just watched it. Really good documentary, although I got massive rage at that Douglas Pound ******.

I need to watch it again but is that the man who ordered the scatter?

If so, why? Why would you ignore your own intelligence and cause a disaster, a disaster which was bound to happen without protection.

Yeah that was him. He took his reasoning to the grave. There was no logic to his commands at all, even after he learned the German boat was still docked.

Seemed like a pride thing in the end; 'I've made my decision and I'm sticking with it'. Even though his decision was sending men to their deaths.

His lack of sleep and brain tumour could have played a part in his poor decision.

Quite possibly, in which case someone should've taken him from his role and installed someone more up to the job.
