i'd love to say its sat in the driveway, but it only made it 1km to a mates place, due to a dead battery that "has been fully charged and holds voltage...."

If they'd got the bodywork protected the British motoring industry would never have gotten itself into the mess it did. These were actually damn good cars for their time.

Re. the battery - I'll bet the guy just lobbed it on a normal charger when it's been sat unused for yonks. It'll hold volts but won't take a charge that way. Worth giving it a few hours at 500Ma and then trickle charge it - might not be a gonner.

yeah, ill slow charge the old battery. its dated 2007. the seller was a brit actually, had a few nice cars. ordered some bushes and some new pads and disks, and a vinyl cleaner spray. taurus, any idea on whether yacht laquer would do for the wood trim?

The wood trim - go easy on it, it's not as robust as it looks. I'd use a heat gun on as low a setting as you can get it to soften the old lacquer, and then a gentle glass paper. (That's on the door trim where the old varnish has peeled.) The dash I'd leave alone unless you really have to repair it. It doesn't look too bad on the photos.

Yacht varnish varies in quality and you don't want a gloss finish on it. It's more of a satin really. I'd strip it, then try some decent quality polyurethane varnish. Thin for the first coat, very fine glass paper between coats.

90 miles covered today. only issues, rear brakes binding, and a slight miss at 2000rpm. full service and elec ign kit will sort it. unbelieveably happy. the three speed auto revs a bit hard but meh. full detail aswell...

done another 20 miles today. not fautlessly though...

shes had an odd miss at 2000rpm. bang on 60mph in top. today it turned into a miss with extra stalling.... uh-oh....

got home, pulled cap and leads off. caps new. rotor button isnt. swapped in a nice new one. still the same. then saw this:

the cylinder should have a terminal on it. it doesnt it had wires wrapped and crimped to other bits. arse.pulled a new condensor out the shed and fitted it, and repaired all the other dizzy wiring.much better, no stalling, idles and goes into gear fine. drives lovely.
