  • [Traitor Car] Regfo's Traitor EE80 Corolla

I then made a start with the interior.

Then took a break and got the front started.

One ****ty rust point which is going to be difficult to repair.

Then got the interior fully stripped too.

    Some pretty iffy rust spots.

Rust behind window as I said, Can't be removed without having to take out the window...

Random shot and Nice and clean behind rear bumper. Funnily enough the car has independant rear suspension which is a new area for me driving wise.

And now dash is out (Recent photo, sorry about darkness I was still working to get the dash out before 10pm)

This to me is a fun project and in all no point's a serious thing, It'll be my first engine change and will be quite a car for a learning curve and making custom parts. And really, I'm just doing it because I love being different, and seeing one of these done up surely won't be seen around.

And also some more info, the car failed it's last MOT Due to sill rust, Which I haven't located myself yet.. But Before then it never failed.

I've got people in the family who have the trait, but I'm also doing night classes myself to learn how to do it myself

But body repair/Painting and panel beating I'm quite good at so it won't be too difficult, Most probably the difficult part will be welding new engine mounts if I want to go something other then the A engines!

But I have considered going all out sleeper and going with a popular engine you may know about Dave. A 3SGE non turbo with a Celica GTS gearbox and front end, Or if possible see if the MR2 Box will fit right as there are rumors it will.

Looks interesting, loving the amount of older cars that are popping up for restoration at the moment. Engine wise look into the 4age 20v blacktop, itbs as standard good for about 160hp without to much modification and rev like crazy.

edit, just realised you've already mentioned the 4age in your first post.

3SGE's are strong as tbh, I don't know about the others you've mentioned but I'd definately recommend a 3sge. Could always think about running a mr2 turbo box. Come with an LSD standard...

            Good luck with it

for ease of fit id go 4age, then add a turbo. theres parts everywhere and pistons off the shelf. and theyre lighter in the front of these.

I did think about a Silvertop or Blacktop, But some of those go for well over 600 quid on ebay, Which is a bit tight at the moment But a simple Bluetop 16v 4AGE is good enough for me

As I have moved onto my second year of college, My tutors decided it would be better for me to go on their motorsports course, which itself including learning welding (Rollcages and shizz) But i also asked if I can take private lessons to gain a bit more skill, So I'm not really going to a specific company to learn.

I was debating on stick with the MR2 box, but there's A lot of people who say about having to mount the other way around or having trouble with gearlinkages and having to have custom drive shafts possibly, Will have to do some proper research onto it all.

Would you know if the AW11 Gearbox would fit?

Those are the only engines I can find recently, and wouldn't be to sure on weather the gearbox would be a straight fit.

aw11 uses the same box as an ae82. so it will fit but you need ae82 mounts.

                        gearbox codes:
                        http://www.ae82.net/showthread.php?736-gearbox-database

to find the code, use the katashiki plate:

notice the bottom line has c/tr/a/tm, tm is transmission, in this case g52 (alloy case 5 speed from a hilux.)

do you know the differences in the 4age engines?

                          Thanks for the info,

And the only sort of 4age 16v engines that I know of are the Redlettered and Bluelettered tops which is the difference of comps + one uses a TVIS intake I believe, and also the Redlettered tops are more popular on FWD only cars, but the bluetops could be found in the old MR2's, But I don't know much about the 20V version 4age's.

I did hope you were going to comment Rob as I know these are far more popular is aus.

Go over to turbosport.co.uk and message a guy called mk1deano. He's a friend of mine putting a 4age in his escort and knows pretty much everything you will need to know about 20v4ages.

                              there are 4 16v motors:

                              red-top
                              blacktop
                              bluetop
                              silvertop

in the uk your most likely to find a red or blue. the difference is head casting, and cams. a bit of google throws this out:
                              Bill Sherwood's Stock 4AGE Page

the 20v uses 2 types black and silver.
