  • [Traitor Car] Mazda RX-8 231ps

Well as you may have seen, my Corsa has now become a bespoke Show Car, so here is my daily driver:

    2004 (53 plate) Velocity Red Mazda RX-8 231ps

227bhp, 0-60 in 6.2 seconds, top speed of 147mph, rear wheel drive, front engined and just generally AMAZING!

    Pics:

    and with my Corsa:

Not going to be modding this "much", just adding factory optional bits and pieces really. So the shopping list looks like this:

Stainless Steel Strakes and Rotary Accents (ordered from the US)

    Axxess iPhone Adaptor

Lockwood Black Front Grill Set (ordered)

Front and Side Splitters in Velocity Red

Offset and Lowered Number Plate Kit (ordered)

    Illuminated Gear Kn0b

New Number Plates (ordered and arrived)

Stainless Steel Under Bonnet Caps and Covers

New Aero Wiper Blades (ordered and fitted)

Full Red and Black Leather Interior

Pettit Racing Rotary Radio Dial (ordered)

    Factory Sat-Nav Unit

The new wipers look like this:

    Not very exciting sorry!

So yeah, will update as and when I do little bits and pieces

What does it show under engine capacity in the logbook for this?

If i'm right it should be around 2600cc (various arguments with mechanics over the years)

Btw, the planned subtle mods for that are probably a lot more than what some users have here on thier Corsa's!

Yes its 2608cc iirc, but Parkers quotes it as a 1.3!

And yeah, modding this is certainly not for those with shallow pockets - for example the iPhone kit in the corsa was ?25 whereas the one in the RX-8 is $150+ !!!

Looking forward to seeing what you do with this mate. Few little changes and they dont brilliant these cars. Cant help feel some kind of rear spoiler is required though. Just doesnt seem to look right at the back. Ofcourse a debadge would help

I wouldn't modify too much on the RX8. It would lose it's value a lot more compared to a Corsa.

Yeah i thought it might be a 2.6

Each rotor is 1.3 litres, but the RX8 runs 2 rotors but mechanics used to always say "most powerfull 1.3 made for a factory car"

Technically it is a 1.3, but i do have in my notes somewhere why those engines are classed as more. Will dig that out tomorrow when im back at college

Oops i think you're right Kitson.

Just checked for a more detailed description. It's a twin rotor engine for sure, but the 2 x rotors make a combined 1.3 litres capacity (although complicated to measure / explain)

But for taxing purposes in Japan it's classed as a 2 litre and for some reason in the UK a 2.6

Gutting...cheap road tax on a performance car would be good

Yeah, basically for one turn of the crank on these you get 3 power "strokes" ( not really a stroke though obviously ). I have a feeling thats probably it but i have done 12 hours at work today and tired now so may well be wrong

Get an engineers report to say it's a 1.3litre and post it off to the DVLA Sam.

                  Technically it's not a lie...cheap road tax!

Haha, too much effort for me!

Here's an really cool video for those more interested in how the engine functions [IMG]http://www.allcorsa.co.uk/forums/ima...sc/film_go.png">

Not really as tax is determined by CO2 output on cars after 2001 not the engine size. Makes no difference if its a 1.0 or a 8.0 W12, if the emissions were the same they would pay the same level of tax.
