  • [Traitor Car] MK4 Seat Ibiza Cupra

So after some consideration I had to get a daily car! The Corsa is staying and will continue to be worked on

I had a few options for a daily which I got down to a EP3 Civic Type R or a MK4 Ibiza Cupra 1.8T 20v and the Ibiza was the first to come up at a really good deal.

Has the normal spec of a Cupra, below average millage along with tons of receipts/history and a few subtle modifications which include:

    AMD Remap
    K&N Panel Filter
    Forge recirculating dump valve
40mm Springs (unfortunately cheap and ride harsh)

I got the car for a good price as the bodywork has a few dinks and it needs a few mechanical bits doing.

    To be done:
    Cambelt, water pump, tensioners (done)
    New Gearbox oil (done)
    Replace missing grill (done)
    Remove sun strip (done)
    4 New tires (done)
    Full Service (done)
    H&R 35mm springs
    Gearbox mount (done)
    New oil dipstick guide (done)
    Fix exhaust blow (done)
    Remove dents
    Detail car (done)

Started off with the gearbox oil which is really easy on these:

Not the best pic but standard brakes are AP Racing 4 pots

Once that was complete I tackled the cambelt:

Metal impeller pump to replace the problematic plastic ones:

Odd hydraulic part which pushes against the cambelt tensioner:

Some confusion on the old tensioner (top) with the new one (Bottom) until the centre part was removed which made the tensioners identical. Turns out the part removed is a revision for models of the engine in some Audi's:

    Pump, tensioner, and hydraulic fitted:

    Old v New water bottle:

Didn't get many pics after this as it was getting late and just wanted the job done. Next day the sunstrip was removed, car cleaned and grill replaced:

    New grills:

Once on noticed the headlight was out of line and mounts behind cracked so possibly had a car park dink:

Overall I'm very happy! And will try not to get carried away with this one....

Nice one mate. I don't think it'll be the springs in it giving it a rough ride. Mines is on the slightly comfier FR springs / dampers and with the same 40 profile tyres it's still ****.
It handles ok, but very crashy / harsh ride from these. My Corsa was lowered around 60mm on harsh Jamex dampers and it's similar to that.

Does it use an 0M2 6 speed gearbox? I know mines does but it's fullys synthetic 70W in my one.

Pretty jealous of your front brakes. I looked for a set second hand and they were crazy money! I went for the TT ones instead

Any plans for the rear lights?
      What's the power around?

Oh really? That would be a shame, these are really cheap and it doesn't handle great and the rear feels quite wobbly, friend had the same on the bora and they weren't great. I've heard worn top mounts can cause a harsh ride on these?

Not sure on the gearbox code but its the 5 speed, for some reason they didn't put 6 speed into the petrol cupras.

Haha I am pleased with them but they could do with a good lick of paint!

Power according to the AMD site should be around 210bhp and it does feel very fast. As for the rear lights are there mods for them then?

The front ends on them are terrible for stuff wearing out and banging and knocking etc. The 40 profile tyres make small bumps or imperfections on the road feel like potholes for me. Cupra runs 40, profile as well IIRC.

I think the springs you have on will make it worse but when standard its not that comfy either kind of thing.

That's good power from it. I raced a remapped cupra in mines a while back and it had me fairly easily. Does the power feel enough for just now?

The Cupra and FR modela came with the horrible chrome Lexus style lights. The pre facelift regular models came with lights in a red background. Cheap as chips used and would be ideal for you I think.
Post facelift came with them in a black backing but they're much rarer and more expensive. I fly eyes mines

Ahh okay, I'll get the springs anyway and hopefully it helps it out a little.

It does feel more then enough for now haha, feels very fast and also has nice low down torque.

I never knew that before thanks. Had a look at them and may be too red but I'll find some pics or get a friend to Photoshop some on. May look nicer, personally I'm not the biggest fan of fly eye so will probably give that a miss haha.

I've got exactly the same tyres to fit on the rear of my Ibiza as well. It's on Toyos just now.
My friend uses them on his Alfa and said they're amazing in the rain. Does the Cupra come with an LSD?

An unavoidable pot hole! But after assessing the other front tire it also has a fine crack on the inside so that looks like the cause.

Yeah I've read good reviews and a friend has them on his starlet and loves them. I'm not too sure to be honest, will have a look online.

Is it not meant to be 205/40/17 the cupra runs standard?
