  • [Corsa B 1993-2000] The things I do to "help out" cute mates !!!!

    HI,

Not sure this can really be called a project its more a "HELP " I've crashed my car kind of thang.

Had a call from a friend who had had a mishap.

After a quick checking over - damage was - Bonnet, Both Headlights, Front BUmper, Front Grille, But what lay undiscovered ?

Took Home and stripped out, Slam Panel had been pushed down & back, which had sprung radiator from top mounts

Picture after radiator removed - big scores down front of core - eek

Plan had been to try and pull slam panel back out but on examination it was as bent as a bent thing so decided to replace and as the budget for this job is as low as possible decided to refit radiator, run up and check out everything before spending any cash at all.

Cut out centre of slam panel to allow radiator to be refitted.

Ran up and to my amazement, no leaks at all

So started to drill out spot welds and remove rest of slam panel

Thats it for moment folks !!!! - I've ordered new slamp panel from ebay which should be around mid next week, arranged to borrow mig welder for end of next week, so this weeks gonnja be spent removing rest of slamp panel, straightening various brackets and bumper iron and generally cleaning up the bits that you wont see when its back together.

I've got both headlights, another bumper (not GS type) but beggers etc etc, and grille.

Plan is to take bonnet off my corsa to use to align everything and fit this bonnet to mine, idea is it will hopefully be easier to work out what needs knocking out that way - (bound to fail)

If I can get a bonnet really cheep the plan may be scrapped.

    More next week

    Al..

Note: I've never done any body repairs this big so any advise will be gratefully recieved - ta

I've done this on 2 corsas now, lol.. one I did by hand, lifting the front of the car up with man force. the other was a bit more severe, and did it using a jack and a few smart sized bits of wood. 1 hour job that cost nothing, as opposed to a several day job costing the use of a welder, new slam panel, paint etc etc..

Had considered trying to bend back but seriously, EVERYTHING was bent - middle section both headlight apatures - I've got welder (free of charge) so only cost really will be time - Well, see !

Has anyone actually changed the panel, who could give any advise ?

Measure and line up everything twice, weld once.

                  Keep fire extinguisher nearby.

Disconnect & remove battery before welding.

tack the panel in a few places then hang the rest of the panels and make sure its lined up. then take the panels off and weld it all in. buy some weld thru primer aswell mate.
