  • [Traitor Car] Michaels California MX5 Mk2

So, had a browse of eBay last night and came across a California edition MX5.

We had one a few years ago, but it sadly caught the rust bug!

This one was bidding, so I thought I'd chance it with a #cheekybid.

    I win.

Also, I thought it was in Kingswinford... Turns out it's Gainsborough!

A full MOT and the sills have already been done!

I love the colour, hope it's as good as that tiny pic looks! When do you get it?

        It's brilliant!
        We paid 900 for her.
Full year MOT, sills were done recently too!

        Y reg, so 2001

It came with a Nardi steering wheel...not sure if it's real.
or not but that's been replaced with the standard now and we're gonna sell it!

Drivers seat has a square of duct tape, may look at re-upholsterers

Drives like a dream! We had a California a few years ago, but she caught the rot and died with someone else! This one is just

Some weird electric work though. Someone's wired in some sort of alarm or something?! That'll be coming out when I decipher what the hell they've done!!

Only stopped for a few pictures.on the way home because, well, yellow!!

Nothing major...but Summer, (Rey chose the name, something to do with the OC as it's a California), now has central locking.
took just over an hour to fit.

Also removed all wiring and peripherals to, what I presume were, an old alarm kit?!

Only got 2 pictures...during, and after.
I was going to write a guide, but it's so easy!

                  Really easy!

There's plenty of space behind the door cards for the motor, and everything is colour coded.

To make it easier you lay out the wiring inside, and clip the wiring for the furthest 2 motors.

Connected the power wire to the constant live behind the stereo (which for some reason is yellow)
And connected the earth to the earth on the stereo (extended the wire a bit as it's so short).

Couldn't get the wiring through the door electronic bit as it's a plug, but it tucks nicely in the door rubber seal and is still water proof!

Not bad for 18 and just over an hour

                      That gear shifter is neat!

It matches the car so nicely.

Cheers dude We're pretty much copying everything we did on our last Cali!

Alloys will be sprayed white, and the calipers yellow.

I've got a MK2,5 set of dials on the way, and I'm gonna be getting some facelift headlights too

I've never really liked the MK2 dials...they look too aged, even the MK1 dials look more modern...
                          no more!!
The donor dials were at 167k...not gonna sit well with me being so high!
                          Operation dial swap began

Out with the old, and off with the outer plastics

Removing each of the dials from the clusters...it's a lot easier that the internet said, All the forums said I'd need to prise off the needles etc. Each dial is just screwed in on the back
