  • [Traitor Car] Samos' MX-5 Project

Not really updated the forum recently so here goes ..

Over the last few years I have had the following cars,
    - Subaru Legacy (None Tubo) - Great car, very practical and nice boot space - but intermittent immobiliser issues, and a number of other gremlins led to me trade it in. Would go for a turbo version in the future for sure.
    - Seat Leon 1.4 Turbo - Terrible car, very dull boring. Would not recommend
    - Mini Cooper S - Great car, lovely to drive, unfortunately didnt last long, after 6 week the engine blew. - suspected the oil pump for the bottom end had gone, so bottom end ran dry, and gave up. Luckily paid the deposit on Credit card so got a full refund, from them due to the garage refusing to take responsibility

This leads me to my Current car.

    Just before Christmas I purchased a 2000 MK2 MX-5 1.8
Excellent condition, had 56000 miles when i got it, sills had been done by previous owner, belts and servicing has been done. Bought it off an old guy, who took it on the odd track day, other than some cheap after marker alloys it was standard

On the way home I noticed it was shaking at 70+ MPH, put this down to tracking, so went to get it aligned. The guy rang me straight away and said "I cant od anything here, your wheels are the shape of a 50 Pence Piece"

This gave me an excuse for my first mod. XXR 527 Alloys, the guy selling them was also selling a hard top, so ended up getting that too.

Since then I have done the following

    - Coilovers (Rear needs dropping more)
    - Black and red leather interior from a later model MX5
    - Duck trail spoiler
    - BGW Carbon fibre wing (May get rid of, undecided on it)
    - CD / Bluetooth Player
    - Front Lip / Side Skirts (Need fitting)

    Much more planned

    Thoughts welcome

    Thanks
    Samo

Ohh we can do mk2 things together!

Yeah certainly will try to get to track days this summer, my only concern is it is also my daily, so dont want to bin it.

No, think the VVT is on Mk2.5 onwards? As I was saying on FB the VVT are known for being a little weaker at higher power, and i do intend to do some FI at some point

Yeah ive watched all the related ones a few times.

Im torn between super and turbo

Supercharged - much simpler, I could do 95% of it myself, will take less time, but less power for about the same money
Turbo - more power, longer build time, feel more of it i would need help with. More documented

Supercharged does sound nice though, and easy enough to increase the power with a smaller pulley

Yeah but even with a smaller pulley I would be looking at around 200BHP

Turbo, a simple set up I could around 220/230 and bbwwaaaaaphhhhhsssttt

So I was looking at going forced induction after the summer. Once I had got holidays over with etc. However a good deal came up last night, so I made the choice to travel up and make a purchase today.
                      I'm going supercharged!
Now need to save up for an ME221 and maybe find a PNP until I get one, injectors also required but believe I have everything else

                              Haltech or Megasquirt?

                              Haltech for the MCM factor
