  • Car tax help

Bought a car last week and it is taxed until April but it's disabled tax and it has no tax disc, now my question is when I get the logbook will I be able to get a duplicate tax disc until April or will I need to tax it from now until april because it's still down as disabled?

How is it still down as a vehicle for the disabled? You'll probably get away with it until next tax time, but it is frowned upon and if caught, you'll have to pay backdated tax from when you became the keeper on top of a fresh tax disc.

You have to change it, not changing it is fraud and I personally wouldn't take the risk.

What Tim said. I bought a Corsa a while back with the same issue, and that's what I had to do to get it taxed.

If your local office is still open. they're in the process of closing them all down. If it still is, don't bother giving it into them to sort, they'll only post them off to swansea, same as you.

                        Forgot to update this,

I went to local dvla office but they couldn't help :/ they said rules have changed so before I can get another disc I need full logbook and because I don't have the old disc I would need a temporary one until I could get a duplicate

But I can't get a temp one until I have full logbook anyway, so bloke said I can't do anything until logbook is here which means I run the risk of failure to display which is a bit ****

Great system isn't it? Punishing people who try their hardest to stick to the law but due to problems with the system they find themselves unable to.

If it's registered as disabled, you need to get the V5 updated so it's no longer that tax code, then you need to get it taxed via regular tax IIRC.
If you get pulled over by the traffic and they see it's disabled tax, you'll need to prove you're using the car for that moment in time to help someone with mobility issues.

Right so am I best ringing dvla and telling them to change it before they send me it? Also I'm confused as to whether I need to pay for tax until it's due or not?
