    Buying a car that's had a front end

    Went to see a car today; was right spec, right engine, nice colour and offered a good deal to swap.

    One problem, I spotted right away. The front bumper ever so slightly doesn't line up. My mam couldn't spot it, the owner of the car didn't have a clue until I showed him, 90% of the car driving population won't notice. The paintwork colours are perfect, since it's had a front en the front has been sprayed so has no stone chips.

    Problem is, I notice. I know it's there. It drives fine, it won't affect anything but I'll know.

    It's like dating a lass who has a third nipple. No one else would know but I would.

    So what would everyone do?

    If nothing is logged on the log book and doesn't have steering problems and hasn't got any tracking problems i would buy it and rectify the problem myself.

      Not thought about that. Don't think I could do it myself.

        Maybe they've (or a garage) just had the bumper off to do some work, fit a new rad or repalce foglights or something. Bumpers never go back on perfect. What other evidence have you got to support its had a front end collision?

          If it's had a logged crash it will say on the v5. If it's not on there and no other issues exist I wouldn't be put off by it. Could be a good way of getting a few quid off it too.

              I'd be more questioning of the massive colour/paint difference between the rear bumper and the rear quarter panel... Definitely been re sprayed also.

                  Thanks for spotting that, I'm colour blind so missed it. Been in some kind of crash hasn't it? As I can't see the difference in colour do you think it's had a front end and they've sprayed the front and tried to blend it in at the back or the back has had a shunt?

                    I'm not overly sure tbh. The front to me looks ok. Problem is the bumpers could have been resprayed even for the most minor of shunts, or even if the owner reversed into a fence or something in a car park at 2mph.

                    And I agree, it's a boring as hell car lol, but I would let the bumpers stop you buying it.

                      Yea it is boring, probably why I'm questioning it so much. I don't like my car so need something comfortable that will do the miles however using my sensible head is difficult, I want something fast. I've seen a 2.7t audi a6 which is LPG, the 250bhp is calling me Hate been sensible

                        My bro has a vw Passat tdi 04 reg and he says its great on fuel bearing in mind he does 100 miles a day just to and from work lol

                            Possibly had a nsf headlight replaced in past judgeing from pics and check for overspray in inner arches thats signs of a minor scuff having a mobile repair
