MOT Failure

Wasn't sure where to put this as I'm not asking for mechanical advice.

Anyway MOT failed today on these things...



My MOT didn't run out till next week, few mates that work at MOT stations said I can still drive my car till then.

But the station that failed my car today said I can't as its failed so that over writes my previous one.

Can anyone shed light on this please?

Cheers guys, got all the parts and will fix tomorrow morn and retest is free. Good thing is they mentioned nothing about emissions lol

current mot only valid if it's a pass and then it extends the mot life, a fail is a fail no matter when it's done. i would double check with the garage that your mates workmat as that was the old general thought a few yrs ago but things have changed...

i had this convo with an mot tester only a few months ago when my dads car failed the test a month before it was due, with no doubt i was told a fail is a fail and thats that, and the mot tester is a friend and so is his boss so they were in no way trying to get work from the fail.

The MOT inspector is wrong then i'm afraid. It's been asked dozens of times on some MOT forums i use and the answer is all the same

i dont mean to be rude here but that is saying in ''theory'' you are ok BUT you shouldnt be driving it as you can still be prosecuted for driving a defective vehicle, still as murky as a muddy puddle that to me

i wonder what it would actualy say on a police check though as it's logged as an mot failure and put onto the database straight away, you are afteralll given a failure sheet so it is official.

I was merely stating the current MOT certificate isn't rendered void in the eyes of VOSA and it's them that run the scheme.

If it fails it's MOT because of defects and you drive around with them then yes, potentially you can be in trouble. But that's the same risk as driving a car about with defects regardless if it's failed an MOT or not. The VOSA database doesn't over ride the old so if the police do a check the MOT still shows as valid until the expiration date.

very true indeed mate, what you are saying appears to be righ but i am not saying anything other than it's still too much of a grey area for me tbh, if it were ok then all mot testers would say the same as you are saying but there seems to be a lot of conflicting answers between testers and testing stations, i am not wanting to appear rude or disrespectfull but in my eyes if it fails it fails and the link you gave say's you musnt drive and states ''in thoery'' this is just not 100% enough for me to be convinced

Way I see it is mot is minimum standards if it fails that it shouldn't be on the road regardless of the fact it still has a valid ticket

Disagree. If it fails a week before mot on a split cv boot then I would expect to drive it around, just like I drive it there in the first place
