continentals on the front of the vectra with syron race 1's on the rear of the, they are a buget brand but havnt let go yet and are wearing quite well,
champiro GT are made by michelin and they are also a good all round tyre, had them on another car and can rate them as very good,
all depends on budget
michelin are awsome but expensive,
avon's are ok,
uniroyal rainsport are v-good
dunlop are v-good
nankang are a decent budget brand and quite well prices, quite hard wearing and quite grippy..
I've had quite a few different brands of tyres and thoroughly impressed with all that I've tried.
Uniroyal Rainsport 2's. Amazing grip in the wet and dry.
Toyo T1R's. Good grip but wear quite quick.
Avon ZV3's. Nice grip in the dry, not so good in the wet. Also, like the Toyo's, they wear quite fast.
At the moment I'm running Hankook Ventus on the front and Kumho Ecsta on the rear. Both brands are hard wearing and grippy in wet and dry conditions.
I had Toyos on the corsa, and they were great all rounders. They wear a little fast, but they're dirt cheap in common sizes like the Corsa takes so good value.
The MR2 came on Champiro GTs. They may be made by Michelin like someone above said, but they're one of kwikfits own brands I think. They're awful. I thought the MR2 was completely overrated in terms of handling, it understeered like a ***** when you expected it to oversteer, and liked to oversteer when you drove sensibly round roundabouts.
Put some Toyos on and it's completely transformed. Handles perfectly.

those champiro gt's are made by michelin but nothing to do with kwikfit, i got them through a mate at national tyres, what size were you running out of interest, mine were 225/45/17 on an astra mk4 and i thought they were more than capable of the job ??
vectra c i35, corsa LE #035, 5-door arizona....5 door demon.
Rubber ones as you have a 1.4 and would never see the full potential of high end tyres unless you were driving like a twonk. nothing wrong with budget tyres as long as they have the kite mark.

Cheers for all the suggestions guys, a few common names coming up so I'll have a gander at prices and pick a set from there
I find that the tyres on the car don't allow it to reach it's full potential. Engine size doesn't really come into it if I'm going round a corner at x and can grip with a decent brand, but can't with cheaper ones. It feels like a generally well balanced little car, but the tyres are a weak point. It also needs professionally set up as the coilovers on it were set up by hand and it hasn't been correctly tracked or aligned - all due to be fixed soon.
