Been wanting a bike for many years, finally getting round to doing it. Got my CBT on Thursday. Any advice from people who have ridden? What do I go into the CBT expecting? Have ridden mopeds etc abroad in the past.

Also, Advice on first bike. I'm either thinking a really cheap Honda CG or spend a bit more and get a CBF. Doubt I will have first bike very long so more thinking CG, but will a newer, more modern bike be easier to learn on?

Cbt you cant really fail in less your dangerous

Get a dt 125 bulletproof and fun the older ones anyway

Cbt is pretty dam eaisy as long as your safe and sensible, cg 125 are normally very reliable but so boring

Cbt will involve a talk about bikes, the a few manoeuvres around a 'car park' involving bike control at slow speed, then you will go for a short ride on the road while the instructor follows you and assess your confidence etc.

if anything the hardest part is the slow speed figure of eight without stopping.

I did mine at 16. Was great for independence. Often thought of renewing and getting a small bike.

See that's what I would love. Nothing too powerful, but still a nice bike.

I did my cbt at 16 also but I did it on a moped, but it only lasts 2 years but you can ride a 50cc bike on a full UK driving license iirc

The cbt itself is very easy, you can do it on your own bike if you have one or you can rent one if there's which is what I did and it was a horrible thing lol those Yamaha r125's are great bikes and also look the part

Yamaha r125 is a nice bike. But stupidly expensive for a 125. Same price as like the 500cc bikes

You still need a CBT regardless of licence I think.

Correct even if youre driving a moped on car licence yoi need to do cbt

I'd avoid the CG 125. Very slow. CBR is a lot better choice i think. What ever one you get it shouldn't lose much value so even if you have to spend a few quid on one, you'll get it back

Well im guessing the first bike will be dropped and scraped a bit which will knock value off.

CBT is a fun day out, it's a day of learning and you get to ride a bike on the road. Was great fun.

Get an NSR 125, slightly more reliable than the rs125, also 29 bhp is fun (obviously this would require a full licence because no one would ever derestrict a bike before passing that test )

to clear things up with the cbt
If you passed your car driving test before 1 February 2001 you can ride a moped without completing compulsory basic training (CBT).

If you passed your car driving test on or after 1 February 2001, you must complete a CBT course to confirm your full moped licence. This means you won’t have to take CBT every 2 years to continue riding a moped.

If you already have a CBT certificate and then pass your car test, you can ride a moped without L plates without taking the full motorcycle test.

In this case the CBT certificate for riding mopeds will last for as long as your car licence.
