  • Will telling insurance I'm working change it?

Basically iv been workin a while .. Wondering if telling insurance would make it cheaper or anything probably make it more expensive tbf but yeah

When testing a few jobs I had it made no difference on my insurance (company worked for/ role wise). It's all stats based but you dont know until you tell them.

You could ask them hypothetically on the phone and they can work out what the changes / if any would be without actioning them.

Just say that you'll be going for an interview for a job as whatever you are, If you get it, how would it affect your premium?

Mine rocketed up when I was made redundant, then I got a refund when I started working again.

Not sure who you're with, but Direct Line state you must inform them of a change of job as soon as possible instead of waiting for renewal.

Doesn't matter if it goes up or down, you have to inform them of any change in circumstance

It all depends on they type of job, insurance is higher if you're a care worker or multi drop driver who uses their own vehicle, as then you need business class insurance, which is a total rip off

                      Are you driving to work?
Need to make sure you have Commuting insurance otherwise you're driving illegally.

In fact, if you're working, and not telling them. Your insurance is void.

You can look at it two ways. Being in work makes you sound more responsible so your premium might go down. But if you are commuting to work, it may go up because the car will be used during rush hour. Or using the car in a rush to work.

Never call up and say 'I'm thinking about doing this' e.g. adding work, or modifiocations.
They add it to their notes section on your policy, and if you are in an accident, the first thing they will do is investigate into the notes. e.g. did you have a job, were you commuting. Look for the modifications mentioned in the notes.

I made that mistake last week, I said I was thinking about adding an exhaust, when it already had one. They added it to the notes on the system and said if I was in an accident, they would look to see if an exhaust was added. I declared it 5 minutes later lol

I will say this though. I normally declare everything, this was a one off and now it is declared. Stupid idea really.

It's purely stats. Mine went down for leaving it in front of house instead of drive/garage.

Yeah it's all slightly bizarre. But as Shaggy says, it's all stats. It's not done by common sense, it's more a case of 'computer says no' kind of stuff. Like with most things really.
